Re: Possible aurora for Christmas 2016

well, we know that Friday is a Storm Barbara, tomorrow is not alot better, so unless it lasts until the weekend ....

Ive often found that the spaceweather site is very good for very up to date alerts, it updates from observers around the world and is usually accurate.

Re: Burren Starparty, second leg, 30Sept-01Oct 2016

Hi everyone, We finished up at 5.40am, !! lol and by then a little bit of fog was starting to appear but nothing that was a show stopper, as soon as we drove down the hill, we encountered severe dense fog, We were delighted by how the night went, it was perfect !, an epic observing night it was !, a...

Hi everyone, the weather is looking good for tonight (Saturday Oct 1st), we'll go ahead with the Burren Starparty observing session up in the Poulnabrone carpark in the Burren from 6pm onwards. It should be getting dark from 7.30 onwards. This gives us time to set up telescopes in daylight. If you'r...

Re: Observing session on Friday 3 June 2016

Hi Conn, We stayed until sunrise, was it 3.30-4 ? I haven't noticed this blinking effect as strongly in other planetary nebulae. I couldn't help notice how much better the planets got as the night went on, as the mirror cooled, I'm going to get some fans together to cool it down quicker. Again, many...

Re: Mercury transit 9th May 2016

Thats great John, glad you got to se it. One interesting thing to note with this transit was that Mercury was practically at aphelion, as far from the Sun as it can get, in other words, its as near to us as it gets, so its as big as possible, the next transit in 2019 is at perihelion, making it alot...

Re: Mercury transit 9th June 2016

Hi ,
I got around to processing the images, and this is the result

Image

We missed the start of the transit and intermittent light clouds prevented a evenly spaced sequence, still though, I'm happy enough with it.

Re: Mercury transit 9th June 2016

Hi Conn, Glad to see you got a glimpse of it. Early on Monday morning I had a look at satellite images and saw there wasn't a hope of good viewing here, tbh I'm surprised you got to see anything. I saw the massive clearance north of the Mourne mountains. I decided I'm out of here and contacted Micha...
