Observing session with a difference

As you all know, the Space Shuttle is to be mothballed next year (2010). I am planning to go and see a launch, probably in November 2009. Is anyone else interested in this? Perhaps a club outing? If there is interest, we can develop this further. Otherwise, I'll show you the pics when I return! Clea...

Science Week Presentation on 15th Nov - The Cosmos revealed

I saw this when looking at the Science Week website at http://www.scienceweek.ie . "Dr Robert Hill will investigate how astronomical observatories have changed over time from ground based to space based. A journey through space" It is open to the general public and is on in: Faculty of Science & Eng...

Don... What we need basically is a bit of kitchen countertop (glossy formaica finish - black if possible) Not too thick - I can get you an exact size to the mm in the morning. We then would have a good base to sit the dob onto. Frank, do you have those dimensions for me yet? I will be talking to th...

The blurb on the site says that it's meant to be turned on to warm up then turned off.
Then on again when you feel cold.
Just being left on will give a paltry 40-50 minutes.
Hmm.

Frank,

more staggering images.
I have to get into that!

Did you send the text alert out?
I didn't receive anything on the number I gave you at the SAC meeting.
Sorry I missed it.

Next time!

Viewing Garments

I came across this when looking for another item on Maplin.
Could be a good small investment for going observing over the winter months.

Frank,

I know a kitchen installer.
How much do we need.
What thickness etc.

My own is granite so that wouldn't suit :)

Hi Dave (and Frank)

Pricey?
I wouldn't mind contributing to this noble project.
Perhaps a bit of fund raising needs to be done at the club meetings?
I wouldn't like to think that abandoning this is an option.

Lovely shot Frank.
I actually think that the security light adds interest in the overall picture composition.
I'd hang that on a wall!

Guys you are doing great work.
Is there anything anyone else, including myself, can do to help?

Great, thanks guys.
Sorry I missed the WSP this weekend.
Well done to you all though.
I saw the pics and it looks like I missed a great event.
Especially with the visibility on the Friday night.
Maybe next year!

Frank, if you have access to a GPS device, perhaps you could post the co-ordinates?

Google Earth now has the ability to pick any spot on Earth and then change the view to look out into space from there.
Thankfully without the clouds.
It's a neat new feature.
You will need the latest version and it's FREE.

Clear skies.
