Re: New Year comet on view
Hi Tony, No, I have not seen it yet. I have however seen some images. I hope to get an opportunity to observe it in the early morning in the next week or so. Enjoy your travels. Conn

Re: New Year comet on view
Hi Tony, happy new year to you and clear skies --when you need them. Thanks for the info on Comet 45p. According to that lovely IFAS calendar (I bought a copy) on 11 Feb 2017 it will be 0.084 AU from Earth. From my astronomy software programme I reckon that at Sunrise (7:58 am) in Limerick this come...

Re: IFAS Calender for 2017
I have ordered my 2017 Calendar with Michael Murphy at IFAS. I got this before and it is a great production with invaluable handy information ..... at about €8 delivered I would recommend it. Conn

Observing session on Friday 3 June 2016
Just to say thanks to Gordon and Dave for organising last Friday night's session at Colm's (?) place near Lough Gur and indeed bringing along their own scopes. I did not really expect to see too much given the time of year but a couple of bright ISS crossings and one predicted Iridium flare (thanks ...

Mercury transit 9th May 2016
Did any SAC club members get to see the transit? Judging by the reports on IFAS it seems that the weather ruined it for quite a few people with the Northern end of the country being a bit clearer. I had my ETX 90 (with Thousand Oaks Solar filter) all set up plus my camera and made my day free to ava...

Re: Irish Astrophotography Exhibition Feb 2nd to feb 21st
I managed to get to see this free exhibition last Friday. I thought it was a brilliant exhibition of some of the best astrophotography by Irish amateurs. In fact the room (in The Botanical Gardens in Dublin) where the framed images were presented did justice to all these fine images. I have seen mos...

Irish Astrophotography Exhibition Feb 2nd to feb 21st
Just been reading todays Irish Times. There is a nice piece in it about this upcoming event in the National Botanical Gardens in Dublin and it features 4 images, one of which is Dave Lillis's glorious image of the diamond ring effect during the total solar eclipse in Antalya, Turkey back in March 20...

November meeting … 'The ethics of space exploration'
Just to say how enjoyable Peter Household's (from Cork astronomy Club) talk was on The Ethics of Space Exploration at our November 5th meeting. It is a huge subject and even the bullet points for his talk were thought provoking. As Peter himself said he had no hope of covering all of the aspects in ...

Re: Registax tutorial
Dave, As promised here are a few results from using your Registax tutorial. I had some practice avi's of the Moon from 26th May taken in a bright sky between 21:16 and 22:48. They ranged in duration from 30" /602 frames to 46"/1399 frames. The first image here is from 21:16 and is noticeably differe...
