Re: THE SUN'S AWAKE !!!

yes, this is the one I was going to use at the eclipse last month, ah well.....

btw, a typical lcd screen might show some wierd layering in the suns disk colour wiht this image, you're better off seeing this form a good auld fashioned CRT monitor or a high quality lcd screen

Re: Lough Gur Dark Sky Park

Good stuff Frank and John,
I look forward to Loch Gur and the site in Mayo getting accreditation,
Any help you need Frank, just say so.

Good luck John with Mayo enterprise, maybe a club will finally form in the north west from this, there has always been a big gap in the ifas map in that area.

Re: Shannonside Astronomy Club in the Post Newspaper

Thats great publicity, especially for such a rare astrological event lol
I've got the UTV Ireland snippet recorded and will put it up on utube when I get a chance, this event has hit alot of angles interms of what exposure we got in the media, which is great.

Just seen a small article on p18 of the "Limerick Post" about the club and the eclipse, nice one :) SEE http://www.limerickpost.ie/digital/2015/2015-0...

Some minor aurora, 17MArch2015

Guys, With an off chance of seeing the tail end of the big aurora on St Patricks day, I headed up the gallows hill to see if we could get this aurora, at first we thought we could see some skyglow, but as we looked closer we could see some shape to it, and the camera confirmed that it was a faint au...

Re: Solar filter for the 12 inch dob

Guys, It nearly killed me, but now the filter is finished !!! :) I also cleaned the optics, there was a thick layer of dust on the mirror and after the cleaning, the coating looks good ! It's collimated and I ran the new filter on the Sun today at various magnifications, this filter gives a deep ora...
