Mine fell off recently after the tape failed. Now using two strips of acrylic foam tape. Its best to use the base that comes with the telrad. You can buy extra bases for other scopes and use the same Telrad.

A bit pricey though. I use a 12V hairdryer with a cigarette lighter socket which I bought from Telescope Service for about 20 Euro and plug it into a 12V powerpack when I need it. I would say the batteries in the portable dryer would not last long in the cold.

I'll definitely try that site Frank. I'm stuck in a Shanghai hotel room waiting for a typhoon to hit the city anytime now. Can't get any local information on what is happening. I had planned to go shopping this weekend too :x

Ditto. The club was brought back from the edge, to the active and vibrant club it is now under your chairmanship. Very well done!

Lucky sods! I haven't been out on a weekend observing locally for months now. Most weekends overcast. The only thing I am getting to use occasionally is the new solar filter for the 8".

I just picked up an Orion solar filter for my 8". It gives nice views with a light yellow sun which is easy on the eye. I went for the 8" as I knew if I got one for the 11" I would never take it outside. I can set up the 8" scope in 5 minutes for a quick look at the sun. If I had an observatory then...

Good luck with the purchase. I still think you need a beefier mount (CGE or G11) for that scope.

Good luck with the observatory. Something I want to do sometime but I don't think my landlord will take kindly to it :)
Will a CGEM mount handle a C14 or did you mean a CGE-pro mount?

Good luck with the weather. I'm heading off to a marathon myself in an hour. Tent, camera, wife and the scope packed in the car ready to go.

Happy Birthday SAC ! Yeah, we have had wierd weather-pretty much since I got here :? Scopes have been in their boxes for some time now.
