Re: Spacefest 2016

It did sound fantastic. And those apollo astronauts won't be around forever.

But then there is the US eclipse in 2017...
And i'm already going to the states this september.
Need to do the lotto tonight.

Geminids 13th/14th December

At the December meeting we had a good discussion on whether to go to Kerry or Lough Gur for the geminid meteor shower.
The weather during the week put paid to the idea of going to Kerry, and looking at the satellite images, it seems that we're going to be clouded out for Lough Gur as well.

Re: An ALMOST solar eclipse, 20th March 2015

I was up in bushmills last week.
Lots of places to stay there, and lots of coast nearby with dramatic scenery to use as a backdrop to any photos:

Re: An ALMOST solar eclipse, 20th March 2015

This is definetly worth the trip to the north.
I'd guess the best thing is to see what the clubs in the north are doing and meet up with them?
The 20th is a friday, the max of the eclipse is about 9:40, so i'd guess the best option is to head up thursday?

It was me.

Its meant to be a look at the astro year for 2015, with an emphasis on the eclipse in march.

I saw photos of the aurora, but everything was in the north.

Were there any sightings at the level of Galway?

Thats great Frank. It sounds like just the right kind of talk for september, when hopefully we might be getting new people as well.

Are you definite enough about the title that i can go ahead and update the meetings page on the website?

Hi Roy,

Did you go observing? Is your scope back from Daz's yet?
I was more interested in BBQ than astronomy over the weekend, who knows when we'll see the sun again.

One thing that can be an issue is their weight and ease of moving around, what would people think of 4 of these under each corner of 12", the entire scope would be sitting on 4 of these, The base of the 12" is supported by 3 pads, so i'm guessing we would have to use 3 castors as well. I just don't...

You could always go with names of people involved in astro stuff. Neil and Patrick are normal names and would be a nice tribute to two big figures who have gone in the last year.
