Bahtinov mask

Got a bahtinov mask recently for the LX 200. When I bought it I expected that it would fit very precisely inside the outer rim of the tube. This mask was greater in diameter than the front lens and had 2 holes drilled in it (see image). I tried it out the other night by using a couple of rawl plugs ...

Great capture Dave. You posed an interesting question about the frequency of such an event and it got me thinking and here are a few thoughts. Apart from the Sun, Jupiter is the most massive object in the SS at 318 Earth masses, compared to Saturn at 95 Earth masses. So, it would be no coincidence t...

Great stuff frank. Your images have certainly captured and demonstrated the 'impact'. Compliments on your dedication in going out at unsociable hours to do this work. It must have been about 23 degrees high when you imaged it? Last July I think it was only about 15 gegrees high at best and it was no...

Howdy John, I enjoyed viewing your latest 'captures'. You got great detail there in M51 -- I would be proud to manage to get images like that just for the fun and enjoyment of building a personal collection. Nothing like a good start to build momentum. I was out last night with my LX200R 10" and cou...

Hi John, That is a terrific image of M42. It is almost 3 dimensional in places. The CLS filter seems to have made a great difference. Do you mind my asking where you sourced the filter? The 90 second exposures with minimum star trailing suggest the scope is equatorially mounted. Is it permanently mo...

SAC PR piece in Limerick Independent

Congratulations Conan on a very fine piece in this week's Limerick Independent (page 12). You certainly gave a good description of what Astronomy is about and how it is for everybody. I do hope that the public appreciate what a great opportunity the 'Free observing sessions' on April 2/5 are and ple...

Astronaut Dan Tani -- Marian Finucane interview on Sat 7 Jun

If you have not heard this interview it is well worth listening to it . It is on the RTE website and it is about 45 mins long. Some really interesting stuff ---trust Marian to ask the obvious questions.
