What I like about this kind of shot is that it makes me imagine what it would be like if you were approaching the Moon in ...

Frank, I wondered where Holmes was. I've lost track. I zoomed on your image --is it position A or B or elsewhere?

The frustrations of astrophotography

Two passes of the ISS were available this evening. Armed with good advice from Frank and Dave about focussing I awaited with camera sur la tripod for darkness and clear skies. Alas , I only got one out of two of my wishes when the first pass arrived at 18:24. Next pass was only going to be 82 " long...

Thanks to all for the nice comments. John, yes I have a fairly good South facing aspect but, when the driving range in Limerick County Golf Club (in Ballneety) is in operation there is a distinct sky glow on the eastern horizon -- exaggerated if there is any moisture in the atmosphere. The front of ...

John, I will not be making the trip this year, but from Frank and Dave's account of last year it seems to be well worth the effort. With the Aer Lingus connection discontinued this might affect the accessability of the venue -- but I think Ryanair still go to Stansted. If you do make the trip dont f...

Great work Dave/Frank -- well done. Conditions on that night were particularly trying. There is so much exciting work ahead when you get fully sorted and of course the right conditions. I look forward to seeing your results.

I heard on the radio that they had a very successful day at Newgrange today for the winter solstice. It was also broadcast live on the web. Unfortunately the site broke down due to too many trying to access -- a staggering 300,000 trying to access!!! Who says astronomy is a minority interest...
