Tom,
you got me thinking that there isn't really anything on the boards that lists
what gear to use for webcamming.

Here is a real quick rundown.

Camera:
Phillips SPC900
and how to modify it for imaging

Filter: An IR filter is a must for lunar / planetary imaging.
use a good one, there are lots of bad fareast copys.

Barlow:
At least a 2X. Again use a brand one, aprochromatic are best.

Capture software:
Install the program disk and then forget about it.

Image Processing:
Registax 4 (there are newer versions but this is the best to begin with)

Photoshop or Gimp (free) for final tweaks and tidying up of the image.


Dave's talk next month is on Webcam Imaging which is handy,
it might be an idea to load all that onto your lappy and bring it in on the night.

I have the gear but never gave it a real try if I have to be honest with you. I never realised how much hard work goes into capturing and processing those AVI's to get a few images.
I should have more patience when it comes to Planetary imaging, as I've always said, I perfer the instant gratification of observing!
I'm looking forward to Dave's session next month, going to load up the laptop and give it a good try this time.
