I had an image of NGC 7662 from 30 Nov 2008 using the Canon 400D attached to the Meade LX200R 10". This was a 30" exposure and I was pleased with the detail captured. Here it is:

I know the web cam is really only suited to planets/moon but asI was out this week with the web cam trying to get an improved Jupiter I just wondered what I would get if I tried the webcam on NGC 7662 and here is the outcome from Registax 5 processing:

Clearly the dslr wins I think.

An interesting experiment, worth doing.
Like John says, stacking is the way to go, if you can take 1 good 30 sec exposure, you can take 40 of them.
Good to see you back in action.

Thank you both for the comments. I realise there is a lot to learn and I have no doubt I will be back with some questions. Registax 5 is all I have some familiarity with and thanks to Jupiter and the Moon I am getting in some practice this week with the webcam.
I do not have an equatorial mount so at the moment I am limited to 30" or so with the canon 400D. But you have given me a couple of things to try out.
