club powertank battery

Post by Dave Lillis » Thu Apr 05, 2012 7:01 pm

well guys,
as you all saw last night, the battery in the powertank is beyond charging.
So, this is what we need.

and scroll down to the 33ah battery, 150$, surely we can source something similar somewhere nearby for ALOT cheaper then that.
and here is instructions for changing the battery.

I've the battery out, so when I get another one, I'll be able to put it in straight away.
for the rest of the observing nights, I'll use my own powertank.

hey Frank,
I've been charging the battery since end of last week, we ran the scope +dewheater for 2-3 hours and the battery was down to 7.5volts after only 2 hours, i.e. dead as a doornail.
So basically I'm going to visit a few motor factors over the week coming and get a new battery for it,, unless someone somewhere has one they can spare or source cheaply...

The battery I ordered from Radio Spares arrived this morning - a 12V 33AH deep cycle. It's a perfect fit for the container. About to install and test it.

Cost to the club is €117.83

Soaked a steady 1.5 amps from the battery for 4 hours, the terminal voltage remained stable at 12.7 volts. All go for the next obs session.
