Starry Night

Post by Frank Ryan » Fri Sep 04, 2009 1:47 am

Lads,
I've been meaning to buy an up to date version of SN.
Slightly bamboozled by all the options on their website.
My old version wont work with the new windows service pack
so I'm using Stellarium at the moment.
Now, in fairness, Stellarium recently updated the package and for a free
piece of software it is amazing - but - there are one or two areas that
have shortfalls that I need SN for.

Any reconsiderations?

Starrynight 6 can be downloaded from
http://www.starrynightstore.com/digitaldownloadnew.html
latest version
download version is $103, full pro CD version is $250, pricey!!!
these are the CD options

http://www.starrynightstore.com/17236.html $80
http://www.starrynightstore.com/17234.html $150
http://www.starrynightstore.com/17235.html $250

I have to say I've been debating in my mind whether the club should purchase the most up to date version of this,
Version 5.8 on the laptop is a small bit buggy (as you all saw) and v4 is just old.
What do you think ????????

Really.

Maybe I should send them an email to see if they want to
sponsor us a copy.

worth a shot, maybe you could offer them advertising/sponsor space at the BSP brochure and website for it.
Tell them about the sky pres talk and that we'd like to use their software.

I had sent them an email already to their advertising / sponsorship dept.
They may think it cheeky for us to ask for another copy.
Hello all at Starry Night.

My name is Frank Ryan Jr and I am the current chairman of
Shannonside Astronomy Club.

For the past 25 years we have ran Ireland's Largest Astronomical Event
The Whirlpool Starparty.
(see this report published in Astronomy Now Magazine written by Ian Ridpath)
http://www.shannonsideastronomyclub.com ... rticle.jpg

This year we have moved venue to the dark skies of The Burren landscape
for our 26th starparty:
http://www.shannonsideastronomyclub.com ... rparty.htm

We are currently sourcing businesses interested in (free) advertising
at our event by sending promotional media which we will display at our
trade stands in the conference hall.

Each year we also run a prize draw
and we give companies that supply a spot prize for this very prominent
exposure on our programs and posters along with our website.
For Starry Night we would be happy to leave a Starry Night sequence run on
our projector screen between talks and during the telescope / imaging q&a segment
of the event.

We also will be running a 'night's sky' talk before observing and would use and
advertise your product for this. (we already use Starry Nigh on our club laptop
for our monthly meetings)
All we would ask is sponsorship of one of your packages as a prize for the draw.

Each year our numbers average around 150, all of which are usually astronomers
or enthusiasts.
Very much a 'captive audience'.

If you think this is something Starry Night might be interested in then
please let me know.

Kind regards,
Frank Ryan Jr
Chairman
S.A.C.
