Heavy Eyepieces

Post by Tom Walsh » Sun Apr 03, 2011 5:45 pm

Hi Guys
If you attach a heavy eyepiece to an SCT telescope, for example 1.3 kg eyepiece to a Celestron CPC 9.25, does this cause wear on the telescope drive motors?
Regards,

Tom Walsh.

yip, you got to have it balanced.
you could cause the axis to slip, gears to prematurely wear and at worst destroy cog teeth and send the motor off into the next life.
You can get OTA sliding counter weight systems, do a quick google search for your scope and I'm sure you'll find one.

Hi Dave,
No sign of it yet
Hopefully customs won't mistake it for a hand grenade and seize it!
Can't wait to get my hands on it!
