Mounting a Telrad

Post by Tom Walsh » Mon Jun 20, 2011 7:51 pm

Hi Guys,
I finally received my new Telrad today and was looking for some information on
1.What is the best way to mount the Telrad on my OTA.
2.What is the best type of adhesive tape to use.

Thanks again!
Regards,

Tom Walsh.

hey Tom,
You could always use velcro, just make sure its on the top of the ota, vertical, otherwise it wont hold and fall off.
Most telrads come with a 2 strips of double sided tape, I use this on the 12", if/when you sell the scope the telrad base goes with it or you can take it off using nail varnish remover (dissolves glue).
I used 2 wood self tap screw on the 20", been a wooden scope, its was the best way.
I cant think of any other convienent way of you getting it on there except the made up bracked you had been discussing.

Thanks Dave,
I may have found an off the shelf product on the scopestuff website!
its winging its way to me! I'm going to try and use the existing OTA finderscope dovetail mount with this adapter connected to the telrad.
If it doesn't fit, my friend the toolmaker said he'll make me up that custom bracket for the telrad. A bit of payback at last for the years of free I.T support my friend has received from me!

Mine fell off recently after the tape failed. Now using two strips of acrylic foam tape. Its best to use the base that comes with the telrad. You can buy extra bases for other scopes and use the same Telrad.
