Well guys'n gals,
The solstice is this weekend, Saturday night, Sunday morning.
Who's up for catching the sunrise on the longest day of the year, Sunday morning ? Maybe catch a few star with scopes before so.

I would be there with bells on if I could
for a few reasons.
1 - Best day of the year to look out for NLC's
2 - Easy set up and break down of gear as you will have plenty of light!
3 - I've long been hankering to capture a film star trail starting just as
the sun dips below the horizon and stopping just before rising,
lens stopped down to the last with as low an ISO as possible to get the
orange blob on both sides with the startrails forming a U shape to give
an idea of how low (or not) the Sun go's.
4 - Comfy observing - no hats or gloves required!

Its hardly worth bringing a big scope out. Binos, camera, tripod a deckchair and a flask of tea.

Well lads,
I had a quick chat with Stephen and we both think that Boher for 11pm on Saturday night would be a good night for a noctilucent cloud watch, then get some very quick night time observing, I'm not bring the 20" just a flask, binos and deckchair, and then catch the sun coming up on the solstice, the ring fort out beyond Bruff is too much of an unknown, we'd need to do a recon of it before we go there, its abit far and I dont have the time.

So what do you think ???

I think sunset is after 4am, but to be honest the weather isn't looking good at the moment, I'm not sure we'll go ahead with it. we'll see as the day goes on.

There is a cloud bank coming in from the west and forecasts aren't looking good either.
