ISS + something else

Post by Frank Ryan » Tue Jul 07, 2009 11:48 pm

Hi all.
I just went outside to catch the ISS passing at 23.33.
About a min before the pass there was an object pass
over (my wife spotted it ) about 40deg high but going West to East
as the ISS was to.
We agreed that 'that must be it' as it was around -3 mag and
did not dim or flare as an iridium would.
One thing that struck us both was that it was really moving.
(and no it wasn't a plane!)

Then as we were just about to head in, along comes the ISS
on the track predicted by Heavens Above, then followed by
progress the supply craft.

I don't have starry night any more so I'm just curious as to
what it was, or did anyone else see it?

Nice Moon out also tonight.

Saw the ISS but nothing before or after - maybe I should go to Specsavers.

Maybe!

I knew progress was due after it and it was to be dimmer
Which it was. It's catching up with the ISS as its due to
Preform some docking tests before the shuttle arrives next week.
The toolbag did also pass at the time I saw the really bright
One. But it is supposed to be mag 6. So. Untill I get
Starry night or someone tells me. Ill just put it down to a
Satellite in lower faster orbit. But one thing remains. It was
Really bright. -3 for a 'regular' satellite is bright. And
Why so low / fast?
