Observing Sites

I'm on the hunt again!
The sheer fact that the site I found up in Corofin by the lake
saving our bacon for the meteor shower
(WHY did we not think of it for the BSP!!!?)
has made me even more determend to find an even more suitable
spot (or at least another back up)
This reminds me of my days hunting for surfing spots,
just like in this hobby, one spot may be dead while another 10 miles
away is going off.
It's all about options.

I will say that I am now a firm believer that lakeside spots bode well.
Even on Sunday night the Fog was (at it's thickest) lighter than elsewhere
and we even saw a meteor or two through it!

With this in mind I've spent some time on the sat nav / google earth
and I've started making a list of potential sites.

Now over the xmas break I intend to check them out...
If anyone is up for this kind of madness please let me know because
2nd and 3rd opinions on site are always most helpful.

So,
I'll post up the co-o's here with reasons as to why they might be good.

Perfect!!, I was thinking the same thing.
The Dolman site just isnt working out, more often then not we're getting cought with cloud up there and now the bloody fog!
We need options, I'm game for hunting when you are!

Agreed. The Dolmen car park is a bit of a disaster. The last four times I have gone I had to go home due to cloud or fog, even when it is clear everywhere else. At least for the Geminids we got a few hours of clear skies before the fog moved in. There is a micro climate there. I'm not going there again.
It would be nice to find a site a bit nearer Ennis if possible as its a long trip for most people and that road is lethal in fog/ice. Even if it is not quite as dark, I'd rather have better weather and a shorter drive.
