Mt.Parnon Star Party in Greece, 11-13 July 2010

Post by Frank Ryan » Tue Nov 24, 2009 11:58 am

Hi all,
Just to let you know,
Vageils of the newly formed Sparta Astronomy Society and Orion of Patra Club will be running the Mt. Parnon starparty in Greece next year.
Please see here:
Hi all,
I would like to (re-)contribute with a call for participation at Mt.Parnon Star Party in Greece, 11-13 July 2010. This time it will be an even bigger event than that some of you have attended 2 years ago. It has been decided to be the year's national star party, and is organized by two clubs: Sparta Astronomy Society (my new club) and Orion of Patra.
We will have astronomy workshops, lectures from astronomers, free lunch or dinner, astronomy retailers kiosks, etc.
Soon there will be a web page dedicated to the event (containing a couple of pages in english, too).
There is no participation fee for anyone, there is free staying at the refuge (for limited nr of persons) or at camping tents (unlimited). And there is an option for hotels, at the villages nearby. Since the organizing committee will be very very busy (you can understand that!), we can not provide free transport from Athens Airport to Mt.Parnon this time, so those of you who come will have to rent car(s) or a mini bus.
Stay tuned. The page URL online soon.

Dave and I attended 2 years ago and it was fantastic
as was the total and unabashed friendship shown by the Greek lads and lasses.
Some photos of the area:

If there is interest and enough members want to go we could look
at discussing the posibillity of a club run trip...
just the possibility now mind!!

I'm very seriously considerin going this year coming.
It would an observing session of a lifetime I can tell you.

Flight detail are as follows
Flights are every second day between Dublin and Athens with Aer Lingus.
Return flight = 32 euro incl taxes, charges, handling fee, and 1 piece of luggage.
Flying out on Saturday July 10th @ 15:40 - return on Tuesday July 13th @ 22:50
We'd have to hire a car, bring bigger tents, no big deal really.

Sounds like a plan to me !!!
