website

Post by Dave Lillis » Sun Feb 10, 2013 4:35 pm

hi all,
As some of you might know, we use frontpage 2000 to build/maintain the website. The website is functional but doesn't look modern, its because the the program used to make it is ancient, cant handle php/joomla for instance.

So, does anyone out there have a legit modern version of dreamweaver/frontpage or whatever, something I can update the site with over the next year or so.

I'm loath to use a downloaded version, cos who knows whats in there.

lads,
I spend some time on the website over the past 2 days, I pasted in some css codes into the website to get around problems with frontpage2000, so now the site acts/scrools/looks a little better.

tbh, I'm happy enough with it now, so I dont think i'll be needing new software for this.

Any suggestions, ideas, all you need do is throw them at me.

Next idea will be to have individual background images for each page, a job for when I have some more free time.

The world map java notification is still hanging the site once you click either run now or always run or whatever. If you click cancel it takes a second and then it's back to normal. It also keeps asking for a choice no matter how many times you click always run. even with cookies enabled. :-(

Font.
Is the font for the site showing as times new roman for you Dave?
It's showing on the 3 machines I;ve seen the site on.
Ariel or Tahoma or something modern would look better IMHO.

Typo.
We hold meetings on every first Thursday of the month.
(except in January where it's the second Thursday).

I think it should read
We hold meetings on the first Thursday of the month
(because if it's every first Thursday it cant be the 2nd either. :-P )

Do you think we still need to have:
***** Special Announcement *****
Club meetings have been moved from the first Wednesday to the first Thursday of the month
All are welcome.

I think pretty much all the old members know by now..
You could do a blanket text just to be sure and the get rid of it to
help de-clutter.

The George Pic.
That photo is freakin huge, :-)
does it need to be so big?

I'll keep the thoughts coming if you like? ...?

   ffs...
how long have I been looking at that and didnt notice., how long has it been up there and no one else noticed.

I'm a fan of times new roman, to me it looks more elegant, never thought of it as old ???

The world map was using really old code, I updated it from the revolver maps site to their newest code today and I'm not getting the warning anymore (it was something I was going to investigate later) and now it loads fine, can you try refreshing the cache on your machine maybe ?? Im using latest firefox and java versions. I tried ot on 3 laptops here and now its working fine for me.
Can other people try this and see what they get ????

Removed the Thursday meeting notice, it must be nearly a year now since we changed it.

Ive left the George image big as its down at the bottom of the page.

Keep it coming,

actually, hold off evaluating the site for now, I'm in the process of making a major change which would make a review now pointless, I'll let you know when I put it up, it'll be a few days, and I've kept a backup of the site as it is right now incase I like it but everyone one thinks it looks like a bag of spanners.
