FYI the Limerick Radio Club is hosting the national Amateur Radio Society's (IRTS) AGM on the 9/10th April. There are free talks on Saturday 9th from 14:00 to 17:00, one of which is on EME and afterwards there will be a live demo of EME in the Car Park.
Using simple 1296MHz equipment supplied by Joe EI3IX both CW and WSJT QSOs will be attempted with Dwingeloo (PI9CAM) which is located in Holland. Already the IRTS logo has been bounced off the moon and received back.
See http://www.irts.ie/cgi/st.cgi?agm
CW is basically morse code, while the WSJT acronym stands for Weak Signal Joe Taylor which is a data mode. Joe is a a physics nobel Laurate. Prize motivation: "for the discovery of a new type of pulsar, a discovery that has opened up new possibilities for the study of gravitation"
QSO is a two way contact: Radisson Car Park - Moon - Dwingeloo; return signal Dwingeloo - Moon - Radisson Car Park.
Joe was a member of our twinned club, the South Jersey Radio Association, he continues to be active in Ham Radio as KIJT and to produce processing software for the the HAM/Amateur Radio community . Unfortunately he will not be attending.
