LAds,
It's looking clear for tonight, maybe a trip to the burren is in order ?
A good long observing session could be on the way
what do you think ?

the reason for 8pm leaving limerick is that there is a big moon on on the sky, it'll take a while to set

Well, what a grand night, finished up at 3am, got home at 4.
Some very light drizzle threatened for a few mins at the very start but then it cleared for the rest of the night.

Jupiter though the obsessionator was THEE best I've ever seen it, the GRS was very easily seen, the swirling detail in the belts and then to top it off, Io began a transit across the disk with its shadow right next to it. Io showed a light orange colour and was visible clearly as a tiny little sharp disk, we were able to push up the power to 500x, it was an amazing sight.
I put it down to the fact its the highest in the sky I've seen Jupiter with the obsessionator, the mirror was a 1.8 degrees above ambient and the seeing wasn't too bad. The detail was razor sharp.

The Moon was fab, showing alot of great detail, we also hunted down some of the brighter planetary nebulae, and open clusters, M42 was its glorious self.

The moon killed off the fainter ngc objects, but hey, it a night I wont forget anytime soon.

I did notice a light blue hue on the mirror early in the night, so Ive taken the mirror out for a good cleaning and am going to install some primary mirror heaters. They not needed during use, they're just there to keep the mirror dew free during storage but can be used to remove dew if it forms during the night..
