May Bank Holliday Weekend Observing?

Post by Frank Ryan » Fri May 02, 2008 2:18 am

Just throwing this one out there Dave..
WEATHER PERMITTING,...
Is anyone up for an observing session this (may bank holiday) weekend
at the Burren?
I'd be able to go Saturday & bring the club's 12'' Dob for the members
without scopes.
(If you do have a scope, no matter how small you should bring it!!!)

Maybe those interested in imaging could bring thier cameras, webcams
etc?
We could show the results at the next meeting?

What do ye think!?

I'm game, and hopefully I will be able to bring a shiny new piece of equipment :)

Fri, Sat or Sun night suits me.

The AstroTrac is looking better than the weather, I can tell you that!

I had hoped to give it a test drive tonight but the weather is miserable.

Here it is INSIDE

The AstroTrac w/ polar scope is mounted on a Gitzo 1228 tripod, using a Manfrotto geared head. My Nikon D200 w/ 180mm f/2.8 AF-D lens and right angle finder is sitting on a Linhof ball head. (Note, the tripod is not fully extended so the AstroTrac and camera look rather large, but the tripod has another two lengths of legs to be extended).

Holy cow!
I also need one of those 90dec eyepiece angled thingys for
the Canon 350.
Are they specific or a generic item?

The Right Angle Viewers come in two flavours -- camera brand (better and more expensive) and generic with a multitude of adapters. I got one of the Nikon brand ones, but I might as well have bought a third party one. The only tricky thing is that now you have to focus TWO places, as the Right Angle thingy also needs to be focused.

I'm game for an observing session. Where is the new site?
Is this the area beside the dolmen on the road out of Corofin heading north?
