Few hours in the Burren tonight

Post by Frank Ryan » Thu Feb 11, 2010 7:57 pm

Dave and I are heading up to the Burren tonight
for around 10. Not a 'club' session but if Anyone is
up for it give us a ring.
Just a few hours as it's a weeknight.

I saw this and your text too late last night to go. How was the seeing up there?
I was showing mars to my uncle the other night and he didn't quite believe me, had to show him how red it was through binos.

A definite last minute job, we had good clear skies for about 2 hours, the clouds came in at just before middnight, just aswell to be honest or we would have been up there till all hours of the night.
Gordon, do you have a means of getting up there ?

The seeing up there last night was 10/10
I could not believe the views we were getting of Mars thru the club 10''.
It was photographic.
Large polar cap with a dark band under it,
Sirtus Major and lots of other detail easily visible and the most
exqusite colour I've ever seen of Mars visually.

The whold country got clouded out but for the few hours it was
spectacular.

Mars is surprising well placed even from Brisbane. I only have my 15x70s with me though. You can make out gemini and orion is overhead. I only have a northern aspect from our apartment though.
