Observing session 5th of March

Post by Rachel Clancy » Sat Mar 06, 2010 10:43 am

Hey guys, I have to say I really enjoyed the observing session last night, was absolutely fantastic, I'd have been up for an all nighter but I depend on a lift in and out, the highlights were the obvious Saturn, but the Orion nebula blew me away, as did the globular cluster Dave showed me through his 20''. It was also great to meet everyone properly too. Really looking forward to the next session. Seeing conditions were grand too.
6'' suits me fine!! :)

Hey Rachel,
Im glad you enjoyed the views through the scope, it was a grand night, a little bit hazy at times, but as the night went on it cleared up.
For me, Saturn was the best thing last night, Mars was a distant second, latter on in the night Virgo and Leo got higher and we hunted down a number of galaxies as well as the whirlpool in ursa major,
We watched the moon rise and finished up at 3.45, tired but well worth it.

Jeasus was it that late!?
Great night's observing,
I had a bad night in terms of photography.
Lots of minor issues to sort out with my mount / scope and camera.

Good to see see such a good turn out!

Hey Conan
you were right about Muse (a discussion that came up during the night about how good they were), they have got many awards from Kerrang and NME including one about been one of the thee best live bands anywhere, cool.
So Frank, they might not be your cup of tea, but to me they were what I needed to keep awake after 2am.
I only wonder did the nearby houses hear it . :P

I don't mind them. In fact I'll give any REAL band
the time of day.
I just can't listen to Jazz or Metal.

My choice next time!!

aw man, not the punk vs metal stuff again,
I'm going to go neutral and go back to playing Pink Floyd up on the hill next time.
I'm easy once its not rave/dance crap, err... am.. music.

Seriously though, isnt it great that we've all got somthing beyond astronomy in common, or maybe not in common depending on how you look at it.

It depends.
Some metal is ok.
I'm not anti the genre it's just
I prefer punk.
In fact some Jazz is cool too
like ragtime.
I just can't stand commercial preppy
dancy crap.
I'm big into classical also.
That's awesome listinin while observing.

So an ecclectic mix next time for ye.
Beethoven and Black Flag.
Maybe a bit of NOFX too boot.
:-)

it was a good night and the music wasn't too bad either. Muse are no Radiohead though.
