I shall be a little further east at 40.98 N and 8.9E in Sardinia on the eclipse night and was trying to work out what the local time would be for this event. Frank mentioned the Nasa web site during his talk so from that I found that that Totality starts at 19:22 U.T.
Is it correct to take U.T + 1hr for Sardinia +1 hr. for daylight savings = local time? If so then the Moon will be 4 degrees above my flat horizon at 21:22.
I checked Heavens Above for ISS passes for that night and there is a -3.0 Mag. pass starting at 21:13:45 in SSW at 10 degrees 21:16:24 in SE at 34 degrees and setting at 21:19:05 in ENE. Should be similar in Barcelona and might make a nice image even if totality has not yet started. I hope it will not be a distraction from the main event.
I must look up the Iridium flare predictions and enhance my prospects of impressing our hosts.
Clear skies to you all in Barcelona!

Dave, Have not left yet , only going out on 12th from Dublin Airport (ex Shannon is a 2 leg trip). Yes, I will have a camera. Weather in Italy and Sardinia is very wet at the moment but it can settle very fast. I am sure Barcelona will be likewise.

Hi all,
There are fold up chairs going in dunnes for 10e, I'm bringing one with me. Going from previous experience, a chair is the second most important piece of equipment you can bring with you.

Here's an update from Pere
Some days ago I send a mesage with some ideas for your trip to Barcelona

I propose arrange a turistic visit to Barcelona in the morning of the june 15, with myself and surely a colleague from Aster as a just improvised turistic guides.
We can have lunch together and in the afternoon we can meet at Aster headquarters.
Wednesday 15 is a labour day, so many of our members cannot participate.
But some of us, already retired, will be happy to hear of your activities and astronomical work, and also to show you our goals and activities.

We have seen the special T-shirt specifically drawn for the eclipse day. Congratualtions.

Best regards,

Pere Closas

ok i'll do it so. :?

Gordon is right, the club chairman should do it, regardless of who holds the position.

He asked for a Quick talk about the club, us
and our history, achievements, goals etc...

I started it and came up with these headings:

History of the club.
Our involvment in IFAS.
Club Starparty past & present.
Club meetings & observing sessions.
Public events.
Club & members trips.
Club equipment.
Our ethos, achievments & goals.

Just about covers it.
Feel free to use any of my shots on my flikr page. or if ive any you want just ask.

ok, one quick slide per topic would cover it in powerpoint.
I guess we have to be nice to these guys, they are looking after us quiet well.

They do mean a quick powerpoint pres using their laptop and all that ?
