Post by Dave Lillis » Fri Nov 23, 2007 5:09 pm

Hi All,
Despite the near full moon tonight, we're going to have an observing session up on the hill tonight, its cold so wrap up well, bring a flask of tea or soup with you, its gonna be a cold one. !
We're meeting at Boher carpark at 7.30, about 10 miles south of Limerick city, if you cant come along till later that is fine, you can join us when you are ready.
The usual text alert has been sent, if you need assistance/directions then ring me at 0876137293.

How did you get on last night. There was a bit of haze around where I live and the moon very bright. Anyone get a glimpse of Mars?

John,
the weather although clear all day was going to get cloudy as
there was a front fast moving in from the NW.
We headed out all the same.
I wanted to test out the refurb I did on the ETX so I so I set that up.
I managed to see Mars in the 5'' and club 12''.
It was very low down.
I was going to give imaging it a shot but was beaten by the weather.
The wind chill up there was Baltic as well!
Make sure you dress for the worst the next time you come up.

I had a look through Conans 8" and the polar cap was visible as a whitish area, although not much else as it was low at the time.
As Frank said, the weather was fantastic all day, then as soon as the sun went down the clouds came in
