hey all
hi all,
long time star gazer so I bit the bullet a few weeks ago and bought a telescope. Still getting the hang of it and realising that I know next to nothing about whats up there!
Living in the city so that light isn't the best but can still see on a clear night. Saw the ISS on Friday night (naked eye) but still impressive. Never realised that the moon ain't your friend till the other night when it was like a street light in the sky and really bright in the eyepiece (bought a moon files online so hopefully it will be easier on the eye next time)
Looking forward to learning the important things like whats the best flask maker to keep my tea warm on a cold night!!!
cheers,
Peter

Hi Peter,
welcome, and I hope you find these boards and website useful.
IF you already havent, then you should have a look through the "links-help" and "This months sky guide" sections of the main site to see resources and whats happening in the sky.
What scope did you buy ?

hi Dave,
its a Meade 4" refractor. it have a go to drive which I would be lost without. tried to find the moon the other night without it and took me about 10mins and the moon was full
bought a 2xbarlow for it and it does make the images look better but also makes the image very wobbly when focusing.
thanks all for the welcome.
cheers,
peter

hi Frank,
link from the Telescope house below:
http://www.telescopehouse.com/acatalog/ ... tar-1.html
it has a finder scope but I can't line it up. it's a red dot finder (actually left it turned on the other day and the battery is now dead!)
Hope the above says what type of a mount it is as that went a bit over my head!
cheers,
Peter

Just looked it up, it's got audiostar, I haven't used one of these before, it would be good to see it in action

hi Dave / Frank,
thanks for the offer but don't think I will make it down this weekend have family commitments over the weekend so I'll be tied up! (not literally
)
the audiostar is good, i'd be lost without it. You have to find two stars and it takes your location from there. Getting better at finding the two stars and because of this it is getting more and more accurate. Started getting the star centered in the scope using higher mag and it seems to be doing the trick (if I locate the right star first!)
Found a good app that helps for this Meade Skykey. there are a few more but I find this one the most helpful.
Hoping to go to the meeting on 2nd May if its on and join up so talk to ye then.
cheers,
Petre
